What happened
Children and young people housed in Queensland's youth detention and residential care facilities between the 1950s and 1990s were subjected to widespread and systemic physical, sexual, and emotional abuse by staff and other residents. These abuses included regular beatings, sexual assaults, forced labour, neglect, and psychological torment, leading to long-lasting trauma for many survivors.
